What it is

MOTS-c is a peptide of 16 amino acids, encoded in the mitochondrial genome. Researchers first described it in 2015, and it has been a fixture of longevity research since. In July 2026, MOTS-c was recommended by the FDA's advisory committee for the federal 503A compounding bulks list, by a vote of 7-5-2. FDA staff recommended against the compound at the same meeting; the committee disagreed with the staff position. The recommendation is advisory only, it is not approval, and final rulemaking is pending.

Why researchers are looking at it

Labs study MOTS-c for its role in metabolic regulation — including AMPK-related signaling — and in exercise-response and cellular-energy models. Most of that work is preclinical. The human data so far measure the MOTS-c levels people produce naturally, not what the compound itself does. The evidence is early and it changes fast, which is exactly why it shows up in so many current research protocols.

Format

One sealed vial: 10mg of lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. For laboratory research use only.
